By Ibe Smith for The Patriots
I was going through one of the Nigerian popular news sites this morning 15.02.2015, and I came across a heading titled "M.I Abaga reacts to Etcetera's published article".
In the article, Etcetera branded some Nigerian celebs as "political prostitutes" because they openly endorsed some politicians.
Hitherto, I don't know Etcetera or have I ever listened to any of his songs or come across any of his controversial articles. Maybe I hadn't heard about him because as a nation we hardly promote creativity and what I call good music.
Good music is hardly accepted in this part of the world if you are not singing about cars, champagne, booty or showcasing daughters of Jezebel who are ready to' twerk' what their mamas gave them in front of the television.
In his joust article, "The Latest political Prostitutes in town" I saw a patriotic Nigerian who deplored political participation by Naija celebs who obviously should be neutral.
What happened to the days of our celebs one man one vote campaign? I tried hard to understand the rationale behind the latest polical endorsement but M.I Abaga made it easier for me by his latest tweets against Etcetera.
According to M.I Abaga, they are after what put money in their hands.
M.I Abaga's reaction to Etcetera's Article.
According to M.I Abaga, "Etcetera's music album is the worst album released by a Naija artist"
I decided to make myself happy by listening to the so called worst album. I searched Etcetera's song on the internet and the first track I played was "The Accent of Silence".
Frankly, the track did not only grab my attention rather, I was forced to download the entire 10 tracks without minding my data bundle.
It is very inauspicious that in this part of the world,a song is rated by by how many fake copies of CD's declared to have been sold or financial benefits recorded.
What makes a music album a good one?
Basically, you find in a good music album creativity in all the tracks.
Secondly, the lyrics must be amazing to the listening ears. There must be sense of fulfillment in a good album that attracts listeners to play back the songs.
finally the album must have something new and unique in each of the tracks that makeup the album.
After listening to Etcetera's album over and over, non of these basics were missing.
My Opinion
1. M.I Abaga is not in a position to declare a music album a worst album because him M.I is still improving. Most of M.I tracks only talk about how he is the king in the game.
2.M.I Abaga did not only let himself down with his worthless tweets,he also displayed his level of backwardness in music by asserting that Etcetera's album is the worst to come out from a Naija artist.
About Etcetera: After listening to his album, I heard a voice of not just an ordinary Naija artist but a messenger of light.
Etcetera is a better musician compared to all the Chocolate City artistes.

You should be ashamed at yourself. That you would so classlesly criticize anything that puts money in your colleagues hands

And here is my opinion.. Since you freely give yours out. Your album is quite possibly the worst album released by a Naija artist ever!
